Beginning in July 2024, the government plans to reinstate the 10% loan provision for youth, people with disabilities, and women's groups. The loan disbursement will start with a pilot program for ten councils.
The towns of Newala and Mbulu, the municipalities of Kigoma Ujiji and Songea, the districts of Siha, Bumbuli, Nkasi, and Itilima, as well as the cities of Dodoma and Dar es Salaam are among the councils taking part in the trial phase of bank borrowing.
The remaining 174 councils will implement an enhanced loan disbursement method, according to Minister of Local Government Mohamed Mchengerwa. A total of Tsh. 227.96 billion is anticipated to be released. This action follows the suspension of the loans due to findings of improper distribution and repayment in the 2021/22 Controller and Auditor General's report.
