==============================Kisesa MP, Luhaga Mpina, has stated, "After thoroughly listening to the explanations provided by retired Chief of Defence Forces, General Venance Mabeyo, on March 16, 2024, I am convinced and urge my fellow MPs to allow the formation of an independent commission to investigate the controversy surrounding the death of the Fifth President, Dr. John Joseph Pombe Magufuli. This is to ensure justice is served to both those mentioned positively or negatively in this matter."
He added, "The commission will also identify those who rejected the swearing-in of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan as the President of Tanzania when it was a constitutional requirement. Given the gravity of the issues raised by a credible institution and a credible individual, there is a need for this commission to be established."
The narrative surrounding the late President Magufuli's health has been clarified by retired General Venance Mabeyo, who revealed that Magufuli had been battling heart issues since his time at the University of Dar es Salaam. He was initially admitted to Muhimbili Hospital and later transferred to Mzena Hospital, where he unfortunately passed away. There doesn't seem to be any ambiguity in this account. The controversy might have arisen from the lack of transparency in the government's communication after the President's death. However, this doesn't warrant the formation of a commission.
Another area of contention could be the secrecy surrounding Magufuli's illness. Yet, it's known that he conducted his government affairs with a high level of secrecy, propaganda, and denial. Even when he claimed that COVID-19 had been eradicated through prayer, his government remained silent about his health condition. Similarly, when former President Mkapa fell ill, the government didn't disclose any details until his passing. In contrast, during President Samia's administration, updates were provided when President Mwinyi was unwell.
Therefore, Minister Mpina's attempt to insinuate controversy around Magufuli's death doesn't seem to be grounded in his own statements.
However, the public has proposed the formation of an independent committee to investigate key incidents that have stirred concern and controversy in Tanzania. These incidents include the disappearances of Ben Saanane and Azory Gwanda, the death of Leopold Lwajabe, the attack on Tundu Lissu in Dodoma, the kidnappings of Roma Mkatoliki and Mohamed Dewji, and the reasons behind the invasion of the Clouds Media Group studios. Establishing this committee would ensure transparency and justice for the Tanzanian public and the families affected by these events.
