Kenya Airways will launch two additional direct flights from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Cape Town in South Africa from November 20.
The carrier said the move follows increased demand on the route as it eyes cashing in on the looming festive season. “(There is) obviously big demand on these routes this time of the year,” said KQ chairman Michael Joseph on Monday.
The addition will raise the total to five non-stop flights a week operated on a Boeing 737-800.
South Africa’s tourism promotion agency, Wesgro, welcomed the increase saying that Kenya ranks the fourth largest source market to the Western Cape among African air markets.
“We are pleased to see the demand of visitors result in route expansion, making it easier for us to trade, invest and travel to our key neighbours on the African continent,” said Wesgro chief executive Tim Harris in a statement.
