LIVERPOOL PLAYER RATINGS

Loris Karius 7

Got away with an unconvincing flap that directed Kolarov's shot on to the bar. Otherwise handled calmly and confidently, and made a good save to deny Schick late on.
No chance with the Roma goals.

Yan Liverpool anaewafanya mabeki wa Liverpool waonekane wazur ni Salah maan most of the time anawasumbua team pinzani ijihami na kuahindwa kushambulia mara kwa mara

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Overran a little during the difficult first quarter, but soon improved when given greater cover. Played a part in the third and fourth goals. Booked for a late one on Strootman.

Virgil van Dijk 8

Gave the dangerous Dzeko mere scraps on which to feed, moved out of defence with authority and was a calming influence during some testing opening moments. Excellent.

Dejan Lovren 7

Defended solidly, even if he very nearly conceded a penalty early on. Struck the bar with a header from a corner before the break. Mistimed jump for Dzeko's goal, though. Booked.

Andy Robertson 8

Nervy, like so many of his team-mates, in the opening stages, but soon settled down. His non-stop lung-busting charges down the left were simply too much for Roma to handle.

James Milner 8

Ran the show in the first half. Roma's midfield couldn't get anywhere near him as he dictated play. His corner set up Firmino's header. Unlucky to be penalised for Roma's penalty.

Klopp is in rather mixed feelings after a 5-2 win over Roma.
"Long term perfect performance for pretty much 80 minutes or so. We made defensively one mistake. Penalty is not a penalty but that is the situation and now it is 5-2. Of course we would have been more happy with 5-0 or 5-1 but 5-2 is a fantastic result. We go there and try again.

"We had all these runs behind, it changed the game completely and they couldn't cope with that. We scored these goals and could have scored more. That is all positive, at this moment it doesn't feel all positive because they scored these two goals but tomorrow I will see the really good part of the game.

"It is absolutely better than I thought before the game but at the moment of course a little mistake."

Was that a penalty?

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 6

His injury after landing awkwardly when challenged by Kolarov affected Liverpool's players for a while. Will he be seen again this season?

Roma's coach comments on the first leg loss at Anfield.
"We started well, but then we lost our heads a bit.

"That reaction late on was very welcome, though, and we've got to believe in the comeback."

Mohamed Salah 9

Celebrated being named PFA Player of the Year by notching a scintillating first and a sumptuous second. Then added two assists. What a player. The difference he makes was evident the minute he went off.
