Letter head ya mawasiliano ya ikulu inaonyesha kuwa email yao wanayotumia kwa ajili ya mawasiliano ni ya yahoo (E-mail: ikulumawasiliano@yahoo.com). Jamani hivi hii imekaa sawa kweli. Mi siyo mtalaamu wa IT lakini nilitegemea serikali haiwezi kutumia email kama ya watu wa mtaani. Kama tu makampuni makini hayawezi kutumia yahoo, hotmail and the likes kwa official communications inakuwaje serikali yetu inachukulia jambo la mawasiliano ya ikulu kirahisi hivyo. Halafu eti wanashangaa inakuwaje siri zao zinavuja. I think it is very easy to hack yahoo emails.

Nchi hii aahh! kulikuwa na miaka mitano ya maajabu na sasa inakuja miaka mitano mingine ya mahajabu. Hakuna umakini wowote katika mambo ya umma ila ktk maslahi

wapo Mkuu ila Hackers are for solving problems and build things and they believe in freedom and voluntary mutual help, but there is another group of people who loudly call themselves hackers, but aren't. these are people(mainly adolescent males) who get a kick out of breaking into computers and phreaking the phone system, huwa tunawaita CRACKERS. Tofauti ni HACKERS build things while CRACKERS break them

IT experts question govt over use of private email account

The Tanzania government has been criticized for using a private email address for official state business in yesterday's scheduled first-ever interactive national address by President Jakaya Kikwete.

Members of the public were set to be given a rare chance to send their questions or views directly to the president via phone calls, text messaging (SMS), or e-mail.

However, the scheduled commissioning of a private Yahoo! email address swalikwarais@yahoo.com for public use in communicating with the president, was roundly faulted by various information technology (IT) and digital security experts in the country.

President Kikwete's live, prime time address to the nation was set to begin at 8.30 pm last night, lasting for one and a half hours. Along with the Yahoo! email address, the State House directorate of communications on Tuesday evening issued a series of landline and mobile telephone numbers listed to the state-run Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) for the occasion.

According to the critics, the use of the private Yahoo! email account - which is understood to have been hastily created the same day that State House announced the plans for the innovative presidential interaction with radio and television listeners and viewers - could pose a security breach.

There are serious security and privacy issues to consider. It is very easy for hackers to plunder the Yahoo! email account, said a Dar es Salaam-based IT expert who preferred not to be named.

Why on earth would the government decide to use a private email address for official state business, when it has its own secure server at National Website of the United Republic of Tanzania the expert added.

The State House Director of Communications, Salva Rweyemamu, was yesterday not immediately available for comment despite repeated attempts by THISDAY to reach him by phone.

It is understood that various sensitive government agencies and institutions, including State House itself, have routinely been using private email accounts for official government business.

For example, the State House directorate of communications alternately uses an email account from a secure government server press@ikulu.go.tz as well as a private email address ikulucommpress@googlemail.com to issue official press releases to the media.

The communications units of the Vice-President's Office (makamupress@yahoo.co.uk), Zanzibar State House, and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) have also been using private email accounts for official purposes.

Even the Tanzania Information Services (MAELEZO) department, the government's official mouthpiece organ, routinely communicates with the mainstream media outlets through the private email address maelezopress@yahoo.com.

According to local IT experts interviewed by THISDAY during the course of yesterday, it is important for the government to use official email addresses to avoid falling victim to fraud, hacking, and/or other security breaches.

The experts say it is relatively easy for hackers to gain illegal access to Yahoo! and other personal email accounts, and the contents official government emails, email addresses, and other sensitive information thus becoming compromised.

Major changes are needed in the way information security is being handled within government, the experts emphasize.

Cyber-Security matters and ensure coordination of government ministries, departments and agencies in this aspect, so that security standards are met and the government is properly protected from possible cyber-attacks, one IT expert suggested to THISDAY.

zamani nilikuwa nadhani kuwa mtu aliyepanda gari nzuri (VX), suti nzuri, akiishi kwenye nyumba nzuri, ofisi nzuri, n.k alikuwa pia na akili nzuri pia! Nilikuja kuondokewa na hiyo imani baada ya marehemu Ditopile kufanya kitu kimoja cha kijinga sana. Sasa hii ya email address inaonesha kabisa na kutoa picha ya upeo na fikra za watu wanaotutawala! Nadhani hata ingekuwa 'alternative' email kuna jinsi ya kufanya set-up lakini ni aibu nyingine kuudisplay kwenye (tena) taarifa ya kushutumu gazeti iliyotolewa kwa umma

Hii ndiyo hali halisi ya nchi yetu. Watu wanaona sifa kuwa na email yenye yahoo au hotmail au gmail. Ukizungumzia serikali ya Tanzania unazungumzia .go.tz
 
Kwani hiyo serikali we umeionaje,,,,si imekaa kimtaani taani tu, wamejazani wahuni, wezi, waongo, wadhulumati na majambazi,,,,,,,,,
 
Kweli Tanzania ni kituko!!Imagine serikali ya nchi nyingine inatumia ya kwetu email..ikulu@yahoo.com!Itawacost vijisenti vingapi kua na email inayoeleweka?Hapo wamepitiliza!
 
Kuna email address za yahoo ambazo unapaswa kuzilipia ili kupata uduma zake, inawezekana hiyo ni mojawapo.
