Electrical wires manufacturer East African Cables has urged a review of runaway last mile transport costs for goods collected from Nairobi Inland Container depot (ICD).
Chief Executive Paul Muigai said the transport costs from the Embakasi-based ICD yard to the listed firm’s Industrial Area yard cost Sh30,000 per trip with Kenya Railways receiving Sh70,000 for the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) freight service......

Unless you want to tell me that your SGR will take goods directly to the door step of manufactures, importers, exporters.... You will also have the same challenges that we are facing!
It costs 70k for SGR to transport goods from Msa to Nrb ICD, but once the container reaches the ICD, the importer has to transport it to his destination out of his own pocket, private trucking companies charge between 20k to 30k within Nairobi.....
Trucking from Msa to Nrb by road costs minimum 90k but they will bring this container directly to your destination without incurring extra charges....
... So the solution is eighter to futher reduce the SGR miscellaneous costs like storage fee or for KPA to buy its own trucks and make those last mile delivery themselves at standard price inclusive of all the charges.... These are things that you will also have to deal with... And BTW, by the time you are facing these challenges, we would have solved ours, so the tables would have turned and I will be the one posting such articles about your SGR
