In this article we'll look on the four major categories of communication, but before we take a look on them, we should know what does communication mean.
What is communication?
Communication can be defined as an act of exchanging information between two sides or parts. Communication is very important in human life because it helps us to convey the intended message to others, to tell others how we feel but also to build good relationship with others. Human is the only creature that uses language to communicate. Other creatures like birds, animals and insects communicate too but by using other forms of communication like sound, waving tails etc.
So let's now go direct on discussing the types of communication.
There are four main types of communication which are:
- Verbal communication
- Nonverbal communication
- Written communication
- Visual communication
Verbal communication
Verbal communication is a type of communication that involves speaking or oral conversations between people. This might be a dominant type of communication since is used in a day-to-day occasions. Verbal communication uses spoken language thus the communicators must not have any speaking and hearing disabilities so as to be able to communicate by using this type of communication. Moreover, the communicators must speak the same language so as to understand each other.Nonverbal communication
Nonverbal communication is a type of communication that involves the use of body sign like gestures, postures and facial expressions to deliver messages or intended information to others. This type of communication is mostly used by people with speaking and hearing disabilities, however, it can also be used by people with no any disabilities to support oral conversion.Written communication
Written communication involves the use of written language or written words to deliver the message. This type of communication requires users to have writing and reading skills so as to be able to communicate and understand each other.Visual communization
Visual communication is a type of communication that uses pictures, sketches and symbols to deliver the information to people. A good example of visual communication are road signs that inform the road users what to do when they are on the road so as to stay safe from accidents. But also another example of visual communication are symbols shown in the products as precautions to users, such of these symbols include toxic (a symbol of skull) to show that a product is poisonous and flammable (a symbol of fire) to show that a product can catch the fire easily.References: 4 Types Of Communication - Mzalendo boy
