Most of the widely used HIV test kits are based on technology that detects HIV antibody in blood or serum, this comes with certain drawbacks one of it being it cant detect presence of HIV infection in a person who has contracted the disease in the past three months before testing.
This is why most of the time after testing negative for HIV health care providers will always tell you to test again after 3 months. This poses a challenge as most of the people after testing their partners for HIV during the first encounters and found them to be negative they automatically assume they are uninfected and bed them without using protective means. It should also be said that during these 3 months of incubation period, the person who has recently contracted the HIV Virus is extremely infectious than other periods of HIV disease.
Take home message is after testing someone and found him/her to be HIV negative retest again after 3 months to confirm the HIV status while continuing to use protective gear and being faithful to one partner.
