“Preparing to configure Windows, please do not turn off your Computer” was a Microsoft windows 7 update report I received as I carry out my usual Computer routine work. I felt it was the

periodic windows update notifications only to discover it took more time than usual. This normally does not take more than 20minutes and when there is more updates sometimes 30mins or there about.

I waited for more than 8hours with the same notification,” Preparing to configure Windows. Please do not turn off your computer” on my Computer screen for this long. I felt this was a peculiar update

perhaps that may come up once in a while on Microsoft Windows 7 but it seems to be tending to infinity. I did a hard reboot which under normal circumstances is not healthy for a Computer System

but I just have no option. It went back to the same configuration process.

This necessitated seeking for a remedial action and here is what I eventually did that bailed me out.

Solution for Stuck Windows 7 Updating

Switching a Computer system on can be done from a number of modes. One of such modes is the Safe Mode. This process will bypass the normal booting sequence of a computer.

The stuck Windows updating process is a conflict of existing software in operation and the Window updating sequence. The easiest means of undoing the updating process is to boot the Computer in

a Safe Mode. This will load the minimum program the Operating System need in order to boot the Computer.

To commence the process of removing the stuck screen, switch off the computer; you may need to place your finger on the switch for a while until it goes off. It depends on the booting sequence on

your system. Start the computer in a safe mode by pressing the F8 button as soon as the computer is switched on. If you are taken to the advanced boot set up settings like in my case, choose the safe mode.

When the Computer comes up in a safe mode here is what I found on the screen, “Failure Configuring Windows update. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer”. After a while it

reverted to “Preparing to configure Windows .Do not turn off your computer”.

When you receive these feedback, don’t panic. Deleting process is already instituted. It will

automatically revert to “Failure configuring Windows update. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer”. This will take a while.

The next booting you will see on the screen if the whole process went well is the Application of settings and perhaps a log on screen. You can now use your computer normally and run the

Windows update manually which will only take few minutes or the normal time frame.

If the above stated solution did not work out, you may need to contact a certified manufacturer technician.
