Ruto Issues Orders To DCI Over Bodies Found In Mukuru Kwa Njenga
President William Ruto has directed the relevant authorities to expedite investigations over bodies wrapped in polythene bags that were retrieved in Kware dumpsite in Mukuru kwa Njenga.
Speaking during the launch of Kelvin Kiptum foundation at Our Lady of Glory Kaptagat Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet, Ruto assured the public that those involved in the act would be arrested and charged.
He said that the bodies retrieved are nine, however, witnesses in Mukuru kwa Njenga say a higher figure as five more bodies were retrieved on Saturday morning.
“Kule Nairobi, imepatikana mili ya Wakenya, imefika karibu tisa. Karibu wote ni wasichana ambao imetokea na tunafanya uchunguzi. Nimeamrisha polisi na wale wote wanahusika kwa mambo ya homicide. I want to assure Kenyans, wale wote wamehusika na mambo ya kifo ya hawa Wakenya wetu kule Kware ni mpaka watapata cha mtema kuni ili tuwachukulie hatua,” the president noted.
“Those who are charged with making sure there is comprehensive investigations on matters we have witnessed in Kware where many Kenyans including young girls have lost their lives, that process must be expedited and the truth found so that who are involved in the heinous act must be punished and the law to apply in its full extent.”
The head of state also appealed to every Kenyan to uphold peace and conduct their business without breaking the law.
“We cannot afford for whatever reason to cause chaos, anarchy, destroy peace of our nation, property. There cannot be any justification for any Kenyan to lose their lives. We are a democratic nation and must operate within the parameters of democracy,” he added.
On the second day of the retrieval process, tensions escalated as police officers were forced to shoot in the air to restrain an angry crowd that demanded answers over the discovery of the numerous bodies.
The crowd were irate after the police denied their request to open the polythene bags containing the mutilated bodies. To maintain peace, additional officers from the Recce squad arrived in lorries as well as two water canons in case the situation escalated further.
Human Rights groups have since called for the bodies to be positively identified, swift investigations and a thorough investigation process for the truth to be established.
They also called for a National Missing Persons Database to be established as well as clear policies for how evidence will be managed to restore public trust and uphold justice.
