In the heart of Zanzibar, where tropical dreams are made, a Polish national named Wojciech Zabinski appeared to offer a slice of paradise. His hotel chain, Pili Pili, became the go-to destination for sun-seeking tourists from Poland, promising luxurious getaways and exclusive seaside experiences. For a time, it seemed like Zabinski had unlocked the key to the Spice Island's tourism allure.

However, behind the idyllic beaches and picturesque villas lay a much darker reality. Back in his homeland, Zabinski was a wanted man for fraud. Despite this, he managed to operate in Zanzibar unchallenged for years, weaving a web of deception that would leave countless victims in disarray.

Local authorities claim to have no formal requests concerning his activities, but many of his fellow Poles say he was frequently seen roaming the streets of Stone Town.

Speaking to The Citizen, Zanzibar Police Commissioner Hamad Khamis Hamad emphasized the cooperative relationship between Tanzania, Zanzibar, and international law enforcement networks. He reassured that if a formal request were made, authorities would not hesitate to act. In the meantime, the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA) has acknowledged the situation and confirmed that the case is under investigation by the Zanzibar Anti-Corruption Authority (ZAECA).

Zabinski's once-promising projects, including the Pili Pili hotels, are now shrouded in uncertainty. ZIPA's Executive Director, Saleh Saad, revealed that one of his projects has been cancelled due to procedural issues, and the landlords of other properties have taken them back. While some investors still hold out hope that they won't lose their investments entirely, the situation remains grim, with many bookings at Pili Pili having been cancelled and no refunds made.
