RECALL FROM DISTRIBUTION: LACTOGEN 1 INFANT FORMULA BATCH CODE 73100179 L1 MANUFACTURED IN SOUTH AFRICA
Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TFDA) would like to bring to the attention of the general public that a milk product namely LACTOGEN 1 with batch code 73100179 L1 which was manufactured and packed in 400g tins in South Africa on the 6th November 2007 is unfit for human consumption and should be withdrawn from circulation.
This recall echoes that of Nestle South Africa which discovered the product to contain excessive levels of iron, copper and zinc a result of which may be injurious to the health of the intended customer. While Nestle South Africa claims that the product was distributed only in South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia, it may have got into Tanzania market through informal routes.
TFDA therefore wishes to alert the general public of the product and call upon stakeholders to handover such food product to the nearest local council health offices. Wholesalers, retailers and other food distributors with stocks of such food product should stop selling them and return the same to their agents who in turn should inform TFDA for further action.
