Hello Doctors,

I have been diagnosed with hypertension since February last year, so I am comfortably in telmisartan H 80+125mg medication which helps me but sometimes my BP spikes to 170/103. Well, my physician has been advising me to start taking amlodipine which I think is 15-20mg.

My question is shifting from 80+12.mg to 20mg a different medicine would not that spike my BP as am considering the gap in mgs?

Two things to consider:
1: Tel H (telmisartan80mg+Hydrochlorthiazide 12.5mg), is working by exerting its effects on the kidneys.

2: Amlodipine 10mg, is working by exerting its effects on the blood vessels.

Hence, you can't compare the two drugs effects by their strength since they are acting at different points.

Amlodipine can have a huge effect by lowering your blood pressure through the method above and hence control your blood pressure.

Though, the choice of antihypertensive requires to know other factors like:
Age, Race, presence of other diseases/comorbids like diabetes mellitus etc.
