$3M Clinton wedding? Not out of the question​

RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Imagine spending $250,000 on flowers. Or $20,000 on a cake. How does $15,000 to $20,000 for toilets sound?

Sounds like the first Wedding of the Century.

Wedding industry experts say that when Chelsea Clinton gets married Saturday at a private estate in upstate New York, the tab could hit $2 million, $3 million or more — a canape or two above the average $24,000 that most American newlyweds will shell out this year.

Most weddings host about 150 guests; the Clinton-Mezvinsky nuptials are expected to have 400 to 500.
Details have been notoriously scarce, but Sally Kilbridge, deputy editor of Brides, said industry insiders have gathered enough intelligence to sketch out roughly what sort of shindig the daughter of President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will put on when she marries her longtime boyfriend, investment banker Marc Mevinsky.

Some estimates put the cost at close to $5 million, but Kilbridge said Chelsea Clinton won't let it get too extreme.

I'm going to say 2 to 3 million," Kilbridge said. "Just because I don't know if they will go that over the top when it comes to every little item of the wedding, and possibly because it's not really Chelsea Clinton's style."
Kilbridge estimated costs for some of the higher-profile items:

• Gown by Vera Wang, whose New York store Chelsea was photographed visiting: $20,000 — not off the rack, obviously.

• Cake, possibly by Sylvia Weinstock: $20,000. Expect intricate, fabulous designs.

Flowers: $250,000. "It's going to be glamorous with a capital G," she said. (And this isn't even that much, she said: Donald Trump laid out $500,000 for flowers when he married Melania.)

Catering: $750,000. Add another $30,000 for beverages.

• Tents: $600,000. These, she joked, guarantee it will not rain.

• Portable toilets: $15,000-$20,000. These will not be construction-site facilities. Think air conditioning, attendants, flowers.

Entertainment: $40,000.

"It's obviously a large wedding," said Darcy Miller, editorial director of Martha Stewart Weddings. "But knowing what we do about Chelsea, she seems to be understated, someone who has tried to stay out of the crowds, someone who has tried to have her own life."

Miller also brought up the logistics and realities to confront.

Chelsea Clinton's weding Location - 'No Fly Zone'

Chelsea Clinton's high profile wedding is expected to draw so many powerful people, that birds will be the only things allowed to fly near the location where she's getting married ... TMZ has learned

According to the FAA, a temporary flight restriction has been issued for the area where Chelsea is tying the knot on Saturday in Rhinebeck, NY -- and will last from 3 PM EDT Saturday until 3:30 AM EDT Sunday.

The flight restriction -- which was issued due to a "VIP (Very Important People) Movement" -- will cover a land mass with a 1.5 nautical mile radius ... and extend from zero to 2000 feet above ground level.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama said Thursday he was not invited to Chelsea Clinton's nuptials -- reasoning the security footprint of two presidents at one wedding would have spoiled the event.

Chelsea Clinton, 30, is to marry investment banker Marc Mezvinksy, 32, outside a town in New York state this weekend, and tight security measures will be in place to protect her famous parents, Bill and Hillary Clinton.

"I am not going and I have to say, it would be tough enough having one president at a wedding, you don't want two presidents at a wedding," Obama said on the ABC daytime talk show "The View."

"I was not invited because I think that Hillary and Bill, properly, want to keep this as a thing for Chelsea and her soon-to-be husband," Obama said.

Obama, who waged a bitter Democratic primary struggle with Hillary Clinton for the party's 2008 presidential nomination, has established a close working relationship with his former rival, whom he made Secretary of State.

Earlier, the Federal Aviation Authority ordered the closure of airspace under 2,000 feet (610 meters) over the Astor Courts estate just outside Rhinebeck, where the wedding will take place.

The ban, termed "temporary flight restrictions for VIP (Very Important Person) Movement," runs from 3:00 pm Saturday, the day of the wedding, to 3:30 am Sunday.

The move is aimed at paparazzi photographers who routinely attempt to sneak exclusive pictures from the air of events being kept under heavy security.
