The trains Kenya got are the predominant players in the Beijing Shanghai railway track. Accounting for well over 60% of freight and passenger transport. Go figure.
Hii political propaganda ya media is morally depressing.Lacks in fact and evidently out to trash the good intention of the Chinese govt.
And there's no way Chinese exim bank would have given Kenya money to buy locomotives from Germany or even from USA.
Wake up and smell the coffee. The sgr will be a big game changer in the region. And its not easy to get any financier advancing a country even $1b. Ask Tanzanians, they are still looking for funding for their sgr.

But KeMzalendo, was all these really worth the cost? That is the public concern. Whether these are the trains being used in China is neither here nor there. Sincè when did the even the NMG become a propaganda machine to turnish the image of the JAP govt?

locomotives can be changed at any time but the infrastructure will serve us for many years so i think it's a worthy investment

I have not seen any alternatives proposed. At least critics should be telling us what we missed (opportunity cost). That would make for serious journalism and critic. Not the hot air being passed around. And what's the issue, the shape, performance, their specs. What's the issue really?

the point here is not which train is faster...the point is that as kenyans, this trains are a disgrace...at this speed, it should be 1960.....we got a raw deal and we know it...the stations are fantastic but the trains are not.

these are the same trains china uses for its long distance freight lines,

Really? Give us examples of diesel engines for comparison made in China. Ama guys had in mind the bullet trains. We crawl first before we walk. And then walk first before we fly. And what's the total numbers of people traveling to and fro Mombasa on a daily basis.
I hope the next govt (jubilee or cord)can now focus on the Nairobi light rail and perhaps ease the traffic drama particularly along Mombasa road. I hope we could spend like $1b for this. Covering about 100km

Wabongo bana, mnahangaika na mabehewa ya Wakenya wakati rais wenu anawaza wapi akope $200M ili kuinasua TANESCO. Nimeona sehemu Zitto Kabwe anaeleza jinsi mnaliwa kwa huu ufisadi wa umeme, kwamba hata Magufuli mweneyewe ameogopa kuwatumbua hao wazungu wanaowakamua hadi leo.

Tanzania is seeking a loan of $200 million from the World Bank for debt-ridden state power supplier TANESCO.

The country's energy ministry said this on Monday, two weeks after the president refused to allow the utility to hike prices to cover costs.

President John Magufuli wants cheap electricity to drive industrialisation, but the World Bank is likely to insist the loss-making utility increases prices so it can cover the cost of producing power and begin much-needed reforms.

Any struggle to secure that loan would underline the constraints faced by Magufuli, who is nicknamed 'The Bulldozer', as he tries to push through an ambitious economic reform agenda 14 months after he got into office.

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has debts of $363 million, the ministry said in a statement, up from $250 million at the end of 2015.

"As part of efforts to reduce TANESCO's arrears ... and improve its operations, the World Bank has held talks with the government through the Ministry of Energy and Minerals for a $200 million loan," the ministry said in a statement.

It also said there was no agreement at this point with the World Bank to raise tariffs in return for the loan.

The World Bank was not immediately available for comment.
